Hello bloggers! Today is our last day of Fashion A- Term. We started the day off by going over our return presentation and we assigned different roles for each person in order to get the presentation finished. We then went over what we would do for the rest of the day in order to make our fashion show happen. That was pretty much how we spent our morning!   When it was finally time for our fashion show, we all felt ready. We had practiced how we would walk down the runway, what songs we would play, what attitude we would have, how it would be set. The clothes looked amazing and we were all feeling really proud and excited about seeing our hard work come to life. We were all pretty nervous though because everyone was invited, but at the end, we all looked good in our clothes and had fun. The fashion show was a success and everyone really enjoyed it!

Hello all!  Today is day 7 of Fashion A-Term. Today we finished up our pieces so they can be ready to hem anything after fitting our pieces on each other. Today we also watched some documentaries about fashion artists while we worked. This week we will be finalizing details for the show and we will be finishing up our pieces.  I think that everything is coming together with the color scheme and the theme. We can’t wait to show our final products to you guys!

Today was the last day of the first week of fashion a-term! I can’t believe a whole week has gone by, but looking back we’ve accomplished so much! Today we finished cutting up our fabrics to match our patterns. This was all finished before lunch. Then as soon as everyone was finished with their patterns and fabric cutting we got straight to sewing. At first it was nerve racking and scary, but after a couple of tries it got a lot easier. We started with the easy things like the seams and joining two pieces together. As we went along the sewing got a little harder. Sewing and working with a sewing machine can be complicated sometimes, but it’s important to know that you’re always in control. Plus, the final result of seeing your designs come to life is worth the struggle!! I’m really grateful we’re getting so much help from such experts, it’s made everything so much easier! Looking forward to next week and our fashion show! ps: today is freaky-fun-footwear-Friday!

Frat-shion A-Term Hello all! Today is day 3 of Fashion A-Term and everything has run very smoothly.   Today we started off with watching some fashion shows created by John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs (for Louis Vuitton),  and Alessandro Michele (for Gucci). We paid attention to aspects in the show that made it memorable. We focused on elements such as styling (hair, makeup, accessories), production (sound, lights, set, projection, props), and choreography of the models.  After looking at these amazing shows we brainstormed ideas for our show (which is next Thursday… you should come) and how we could make it a memorable one. We then experimented with makeup and music until it was time for lunch.  Right after lunch we went to Joann Fabric store and bought all of our materials and patterns for our collection. We managed to stay pretty far below out budget which will be put towards props or accessories (or maybe even a lunch!). Tomorrow we will st

On Tuesday morning, we all met up to discuss the specifics of our chosen topic: Fraternity Elegance. We decided on the color scheme and the factors of fraternity culture (such as pastels, athletic clothes, khakis, etc . . .) that we wanted to include in our designs. After that we all started sketching our designs and checking with each other to make sure that we had a cohesive collection. Ms Robinson came in for the afternoon and helped us properly get our measurements and begin thinking about patterns to use for our designs. This morning we only had an idea for the theme but by the end of the day we were ready to go purchase patterns and fabrics! -Claire Langenkamp

Today was our first day of A-Term. These next two weeks we will be focusing on designing a cohesive fashion collection. We met with Claire Robinson, a sewing specialist. The first thing we did was learn about certain fabrics and the way they’re made. We also learned about a-line cuts, and how cutting the fabric differently can change the shape or drape of the garment. Then we learned how to sew on different types of buttons. Then we learned how to do a hand sewing stitch, the running stitch and back stitch. Finally, in the afternoon Maria gave a tutorial on how to sketch fashion croquis, and went through the process and showed the other students how to follow each step. Afterwards, we focused on two very important and cohesive collection designed by John Galliano, one for his personal label and one for Christian Dior. We discussed what makes a unique and cohesive collection, and then discussed what would be interesting for our final project. We decided on a main topic (it’s a surprise
